The Writers Room

The Writers Room series presents open mic opportunities for established and emerging Indigenous writers’ readings of written stories and traditional oral storytelling.

The Writers Room serves Indigenous writers with professional development and a reading series. We present one to three main acts to read their work, participate in talkbacks, interviews with Q&A, and workshops. We also have an open mic section where anyone can read and share.

The Writers Room series presents open mic opportunities for established and emerging Indigenous writers’ readings of written stories and traditional oral storytelling.

Talkbacks and Q&A sessions engage audiences and prompt conversations that deepen their understanding of the writer’s work. These discussions stimulate writers with new ideas and perspectives and foster deeper connections to their audiences.

The Writers Room offers storytelling, poetry, and writing workshops hosted by writers such as Duke Redbird (poet), Cliff Cardinal (playwright) and Jace Martin (song writer). We are honoured to have had readings and workshops led by the late Lee Maracle (writer).

We build community with the Houseless by bringing Writers Room performances, workshops and feasts to the encampments in the parks.
